Father’s Day card and print

Yesterday I had an urge to paint while I should have been sewing! The illustration was surprisingly clear in my mind’s eye so I didn’t hesitate: I put the sewing machine aside and drew a sleeping bear. Then for some reason a sleeping baby jumped on his back. This became the perfect illustration for that Father’s Day card I had been wanting to design for a few weeks!

I continued with my coloured pencil experiment. I find that adding the pencil over the watercolour is a little bit daunting as I’m a bit worried about messing it up! But that illustration was actually rather quick to do so I wouldn’t have been too heartbroken if I had failed. I really like the light/ shadow effects I managed to get with this technique, especially on baby bear. What I’m happiest about though is Daddy Bear’s face. It was just a single coloured flat surface before I added the pencil!

It’s now available in my shop both as a card and as a print!
